Default Po307

97 Dakota 5.2 V8. 4x4.

I know it's engine misfire on cylinder 7. According to manual it's driver side closest to driver (towards back of engine). I replaced the wires and tried two different plugs. Can't get MIL light off. Any other suggestions? Thx

Does your truck have 2 or 4 O2 sensors?

The computer uses O2 sensors to calculate misfires. Our 1970-2000 aged engines do not have knock sensors like newer engines. If a sensor is erroneous, you'll get errors.

This should be your next step. If compression is good, check the fuel injector.

misfire counters use the crankshaft speed sensor to detect misfires. the ecm expects to see crank speed increase during a firing pulse of a cylinder...a misfire causes the crank sensor reading to slow down. 02 sensors read oxygen levels in the exhaust stream...there is no 02 misfire counter connection.

the knock sensor is used to retard ignition timing if the piezo-resistive sensor picks up preignition or detonation, not counting misfires

bad 02 can cause misfires but typically not one cylinder as the fuel trim effects each bank...best way to rule it out is to unplug them....but that is after checking the basics.
the vehicle will operate in open loop, ignoring the missing 02 data and use preprogrammed fuel trim data based on rpm, tps, ect data.
