Got a new oil pan and it looks like the different oil pans are between the Dakota and the Durango. My rebuilt engine was out of a Durango 4x4 and has a much deeper and longer rear sump than the pan for a Dakota. The Dakota pans all look to be the same and the replacement I got looks just the same as the ruined one from the original engine - except it doesn't look ruined. Found the yard the rebuilt engine came from and got the VIN of the donor vehicle which checked out as a 2001 Durango. Which I figured since the rebuild tag had DURAN printed on one line.
