Intermittent P0340
My truck has been giving me an intermittent P0340 code, indicating a cam sensor or a crank sensor from what I can understand. It shows up for a short while then goes away. It's happened twice, both times it illuminates for a day or so, always less than 5 miles, and then it goes away without me doing anything. The truck only has around 70K on the clock and I've owned it since new. From what I understand if it's a Cam sensor the truck should run, but not great. If it's the Crank the truck won't run. When the light comes on the only reason I know it is lit is by happening to see it. The truck runs fie and seems to perform fine to. Anyone have experience with this?
It probably would, depending upon when it failed.
The crank and cam position sensors work together to provide inputs to the PCM. If the crank position sensor fails it won't run. The cam position sensor is secondary to the CKP. It provide a fuel sync and synchronizes the injectors with the cylinders.
I'd change it.
