Default newbie needs help with auto trans ? '99 Dakota

Hello from Iowa

Just joined today. I'm old as dirt and twice as dusty with no computer skills and a bit of a Luddite as well. Let me know if I step on any toes. Have a 99 Dakota 318 4wd with a lunched 44re if i used the VIN decoder correctly. A neighbor has a 2000 Durango 4.7 V8 motor is stuck - run without coolant by his kid (who actually said "it quit leakin water so I figr'd it was ok"). I don't have the VIN but don't all the 4.7 use the (5)45RFE? Which brings me to my question, can I use the (5)45RFE from the '00 Durango in the '99 Dakota?

Thanks

No, they are two completely different systems. 99 and 00 do not even use the same chassis or cab electrical or control systems.

Nope. 99 was the last year. If the Dakota was a 2000, you could swap.

No, as even then the 545RFE does not bolt up or compute with a 318 engine/computer. 545 slushbox and the 4.7 is the only dakota/durango pairing that works.

Gentlemen
Thank you for setting me straight on this. Glad I asked here BEFORE i handed over the $$ this time. Is there a sticky that would show me what would be workable donors? I tried to find one but got frustrated and went out side to yell at passing children " GET the hell off my lawn".

Thanks again, you saved me a bunch of hassle.
