I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9 Sport. Vehicle will start, runs rough, then will start to shake, will not go over 30mph, intermittent backfiring and will shut down after about a 1/2 mile of driving or so when trying to troubleshoot or after fixing something else.

Code P1391 Crank Shaft no Crank is pulled up. Changed the CrankShaft Position sensor, Camshaft position sensor. Vehicle has new Fuel pump, wires, distributor, plugs, igniter coil pack. I have not seen any smoke out of exhaust pipe.

 

P1391 - intermittent loss of cam or crank position sensor.

Check the harness to both sensors. On the crank position sensor there should be a notch that goes into a hole in the distributor. You didn't overtight either did you?

Could be a bad sensor.

 

I have gone through alot of the sensors and haven't been able to pin point any one specific. Do you have suggestion on which one to check?

I just added the plug in cord to it, hoping it will help. Can anyone tell me I it normal for the block to start getting hot were the plug in is? I can hold my hand on it for about 20 to 30 seconds before it gets too hot. Cord is cool.

 

Now I see the sensor you were talking about. I will have to get help on that one. I have owned this truck for 13 yrs and have never had an issue. I am a female so i have been taken to the cleaners on this by the dealer but I have another gentleman that has been working on the maintenance for me so i can ask him but we didn't do anything with the crank sensor.
