Default fuel filter question??

Im putting new fuel injectors in my 98 dakota w/318 I have not really looked at the truck yet but I wondered if anyone put a fuel filter on the fuel rail or before. How did you do it? And what part or filter did you use?
Any help would be appeciated

Could it be the inside of the fuel rail is breaking down and clogging the injectors?

Have you tried dumping some fuel injector cleaner in the tank? how about methyl hydrate?(for water) Has your truck been sitting for long periods of time? If so maybe an injector flush would help. Did you know that the fuel filter is attached to the fuel pump in the tank? (costly little unit)

I hope this helps

well your changing your injectors cause there pulging? the first question is why are they pluging? replaced your fuel filter. if the pluging continues you have something in your tank that is getting through your filter. if this continues after you replace your filter have the tank cleaned this would consist of r+r you tank. also when you replaced your filter cut the old one up and see what is inside of it. even though its called a filter dibris still gets through.

Here's what I did when I learned I had to drop the fuel tank to get at the "extended life" filters Dodge hid in the tank.
Several bucks at the local auto parts store. There are cheaper solutions, of course. It's only been on for about 5K miles. After 10k, I'm gonna see how much stuff is getting past those OEM filters.

It's a take-apart fuel filter with replaceable filter element.
The chrome part is the bowl area where the filter lives.
The red piece is where the fuel lines connect.
Up on top in the center is a bolt that holds it all together.

I just cut away a section of fuel line with a tubing cutter, and spliced the filter in using the 8mm (5/16") I.D. rubber hoses.
That big black thing to the far left in the picture is the fuel tank.
I attached a flat metal plate to the frame, and that's what the filter is mounted to.

Be careful if you drop the tank on a dak. I needed a fuel system fix that needed the tank to be dropped and took it to a five star Dodge dealer since it was still under warranty. A few years later I was pumping gas and it started pouring out onto the asphalt. (Boy, do you get strange looks when that happens.) Took it home and used a mirror to peer up under the fender. Near the top of where the flexible hose attaches to the metal of the tank it was torn. Kind of like you took some wide jawed pliers and twisted the heck out of the plastic tube. The position made it unlikely to be an accidental hit by debris. Took it to my mechanic since I didn't want to drain the tank and deal with it at home. I had asked him if he thought it could be vandalism and he said it looked like it had been kinked when the tank was dropped. I told him it never had. I went home and started looking through some receipts. Had forgotten about the fuel system repair. I suspect the dealer tech was lazy and didn't drop it fully and kinked it when he buttoned it back up. Stuff like this can show up much later. Of course they denied it was their doing and after so much time I couldn't do much. Could have been very inconvenient if I had been without gas further from home. One more thing I know to look for when buying a used dak...
