Hi everyone! I have a 2001 dak with the 4.7L and we are getting ready to take a trip to the mountains next month with the camper.... I figured I need to toss a trans cooler in the ole girl first, so I get on etrailer and order me one.. they say I need xxx adapter kit so I toss it in too. Well today I get her apart.. get the return line loose from the radiator and the adapter they said I needed is no where close to fitting! I know I could just hack the line and rig it with clamps on the line but I would really like to fix it right. Any ideas on what kit would work? Anyone know if the line itself is 3/8 or 5/16? I figure if I have to I could hack the line and go with a Transmission Cooler Line to NPT Hose Barb Compression Fitting but not sure if I need a 3/8 or 5/16 for that. Any advice would be much appreciated as we are down to crunch time on our trip now!

 

it's a very specific fitting, I got lucky and was able to find it at Ace Hardware (the CSR knew exactly what i needed, HD & Lowes looked at me like I was an alien).

They are 3/8 inverted flare fittings, with 5/8-18 thread.

Did your truck come with the OEM tow package? If so, you should already have a cooler. This is mine...

 

My truck did not come with the factory trans cooler.. I ended up going with the compression fitting. Got it installed today and everything seems good to go. I also stopped by the bone yard and picked up a factory cruise! Got it hooked up and its working good too. The cruise will be a life saver on our 3,000 mile trip!
