1999 5.9 R/T questions
Hello everyone!
I have a 1999 Dakota 5.9 R/T extended cab intense blue in color.
I hope to have a few questions answered from ya'll!
1. I was told that there was not a speed limiter on this model......Mine shuts off @ 118 mph?
Is this true?
2. What was the reason for Dodge buying back so many R/T's in 1999?
Mine is a manufactur buy-back. Any sites with info on this?
3. Are there any diffferences in the casting #'s for the R/T cylinder heads and the regular 5.9 heads?
I really apprecieate the help !

RE: 1999 5.9 R/T questions
The Dak R/T does have a speed limiter, unless the Mopar performance chip was added. This removed the speed limiter, raised the RPM limits, and added about 26 hp. The "buy back" was a class action suit against DC because when the R/T first came out it was stated in ads that it had a higher towing capability. Then in '99 they said it could only tow 2000 lbs. DC offered to buy back any R/T, exchange it for a different vehicle (except viper), or pay $500 toward any accessory. Many people traded in their '98 and '99 R/T's for 2000 R/T's. I took the $500 and bought Mopar headers for my '99 R/T (didn't use it for towing). traded it in for a '05 Magnum R/T. Wife still has her 2000 R/T

The head thing I was worried about!
I bought this thing a year ago from a delership and a couple weeks later it started overheating. Come to find out the heads were cracked in 4 spots each. So the dealer ship then had their mechanic replace both heads and the radiator and freeze plugs and a bunch of other stuff dealing with the cooling system. I guess it works. Wont be around for much longer anyways looking to get a 1998-2002 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with a Cummins and a 5 spd..
By the way, where can I get one of those Mopar PCM chips used other than E-bay?

RE: 1999 5.9 R/T questions
they are the same heads that all the magnum motors come with. and they are crap. as you found out they are prone to cracking between the valve seats.
the R/T heads are a different casting then the stock heads and should not be confused with the R/T package that comes on the daks. all v8's have the same heads.

You can get one at www.krcperformance.com
It will raise your rev limiter and add more timing etc.

NAH!! If I ever came into a few million $$ I would make it a pure race truck or even a Pre-Runner. That would be different!
I am totally thinking about getting rid of this thing. REALLY want a 1998-2002 Dodge 3/4 ext cab 4x4 s.b cummins w/ a 5 spd!
