I am looking for a nv231 transfer case for a 99 dakota with a 3.9 V8 and manual transmission. I may get one from a pick and pull but wanted to know how I can tell which tcase it is and what years and models I could find one in. Thanks.

 

There is a round tag on the backside, that will tell you what it is. (231, 241, etc....) You *should* be able to use any 231 from 98 and up Dakotas/Durangos/Rams. (It MUST be a 231 though.) I think the manual transmission cases have a slightly deeper input hub though... I don't know if the automatic flavor will work. If that particular part in your t-case is still good though, it should swap right out.
