Default 4.7l

I have 130k miles on my 4.7L '04 Dakota. I've performed very little engine work on it over the years -- New water pump and new exhaust gaskets. That's it. Even though it still runs like a raped ape, I'm wondering if it is due for some preventative maintenance. Should I R&R the plugs & plug wires? Anything else? I'm sure there are plenty of synthetic oil threads, so forgive me, but I'm also thinking about switching to synthetic oil. Any words of wisdom on that subject? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

There are no plug wires on the 4.7. It uses coil on plug so there is a coil for each cylinder. The OEM spark plugs are only rated for 30k miles so I hope you've changed them.
I'm at 195k with no major work, still the original water pump too. I just use regular oil, 5w-30.

If you haven't changed the plugs yet, the gaps must be wide as hell now. You'll probably see a decent gas mileage increase when you do. Yes, switch to full syn. I run Quaker State Ultimate Durbability, 0W-20.
