Default 2001 Hard start problem (newbie)

Looking for a little help for a hard starting 2001 crew cab with a 4.7 . It cranks normally and runs great once started. Problem is, you have to crank it for 10-15 seconds before it will start. After the initial start up it kicks off right away. The Crank Sensor has been recently replaced due to bucking problem. It doesn't throw any codes. Where to start looking?

All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with my Mustang once upon a time ... Was caused by a negative fuel feed. Try turning your key to the ON position, for accessories (which will cause your fuel pump to prime),wait for about 2-3 seconds, and repeat a few times. If it starts any easier it may be a negative fuel feed.... Other than that, ermmm... I'm drawing a blank right now

I have a 2001 QC 4.7 and my fuel pump went at about 130,000 kms. That's when I learned the pump and filter are in the tank together. Sounds like a fuel problem to me.

Kind of figured it is a fuel problem. It doesn't have a raw gas smell when it is trying to start, just cranks. I should have been more specific in my questioning. Does any one know if there is a check valve in the fuel line or the fuel system? Or might there be a fuel pump relay that runs the pump a few seconds before it build oil pressure? Thanks for the replies so far. They re-enforced what I suspected.

.... Just a thought. What about your gas cap ?? I know it sounds stupid, but these systems offten rely on a sealed pressurized system, and gas caps offten go bad.... Could be a cheap fix, especially if you know someone who has another Dakota, or spare caps laying around!! Good Luck

Hmmm I will look at the cap. This might be the time to put a locking cap on. Thanks
