Default 97 Dakota sport 6 speed

Lost clutch pedal. Clutch master has fluid, no leaks slave .Do I pull out slave to check?
Or am I at point of pulling out trans and looking into bell housing to see if clutch fork broken or bent ?
I have no history of truck maintenance..
Clutch was at top of pedal but worked fine.
Not sure whether slave pushes or pulls fork to engage or disengages clutch.
Any input appreciated.

The slave pushes to release the clutch.
The master and slave can both fail internally. They don't have to leak. Most likely one has failed. You don't have to pull the transmission to replace the slave.

Got master / slave $90.. Not the problem. Now think its the fork.
spent 4hours on install. Factory sure didn't leave much room.
Got the tools to drop tranny. Don't have the time.
Off to the shop,,
Thanks for response All
