Default No AC in my 98 dakota

Hey guys i've searched the forum here for a fix but can't seem to find my exact situation. I've got a 98 dakota with a 5.2 and the AC hasnt worked since i bought the truck. I had the ac recharged and checked for leaks. Theres no leaks, I've also replaced the ac clutch relay but still cannot get the compressor to turn on. I can spin the compressor freely when the truck is off. I removed the relay with the truck off and jumped the terminals with a piece of wire and it caused the blower inside the truck to come on. Should that happen? I started up the truck and it still didnt turn the compressor. What else should i be checking to get this problem fixed??

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure you jumped the correct relay? It should not cause the blower motor to run.

Try jumping the clutch directly off the battery.

Check the wire going to the clutch it may be severed inside the plastic but look OK happened to me if you giggled the clutch wire it kicked on and off.

I've noticed that the clutch will engage for about one second then shut off for about 3 and repeat this cycle with the blower turned high and max AC on.

That's likely the low pressure switch cutting off the compressor. Jump it and try it.

Then check pressures. You may have a leak in the system.
