P0442 to P0455
So I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L 4x4 and a couple of years ago it threw a P0442 at me. Turned out that this was the canister, replaced that and some tubing later that week. Beginning of April 2018 it threw the same code my way. I did the routine of gas cap, canister and hose visual inspection, which turned out all good. But I did find two hoses under the hood, one had very small cracking, and the bigger hose had significantly more cracking where it connected to leak detection pump? (at least thats what I think it is). Took it to a shop and they smoked it and they found zero leaks, and suspect it is the Fuel Vapor Leak Detection Pump and not the two cracked hoses. Does this sound right? They did a in-bay force test to get the error code again, which ran P0442 there, but when I parked it in my college parking garage (not even 10 minutes later) the code ran P0455. Any suggestions on moving this forward?
Hi MDivZ,
We have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. It ran fine but had error codes P0442 and P0455. Since we were due for emissions, I had to get the issue fixed and codes cleared. Here's what I did:
Visually inspected all hoses - looked good.
Replaced gas cap.
Replaced EGR vent valve.
Verified EGR Purge solenoid was good.
Ran smoke test several times trying to find leaks - none detected.
After all that, it was still displaying the error codes. I finally took it to a mechanic and he validated my work / troubleshooting and concluded it was the Leak Detection Pump (LDP). He said it was the only thing left in the EGR system that could be failing. I picked up the pump from a local auto parts store (much cheaper than Dodge) and delivered it to the mechanic. He replaced it and 100 miles later, the Check Engine Light was still off! We passed emissions and the 4 weeks later, the light is still off.
Hope this helps you.

-Jason
