97 dakota 4x4 ext cab 5.2 v8.
was doing some light driving, drop my brother off at his place and go to drive home myself. Bout 3 miles later truck starts to burp and fart and just all around loss of go power. Slide into neutral and feather the throttle and just dies out. Go look over all wiring to see if anythings lose or came disconneted. Nothing out of place. Can crank over and over but thats about all it does. All fuses and relays are good, new battery, starter, cam sensor, crank sensor. Checked voltage at coil and its not getting power which leads me to think pcm is bad. Tryed turning over today and kinda started/ran for a few seconds and noticed smoke/dust from the alternator. So could the alt cause the whole thing to just shut down or is it just the pcm? Or even something else i am missing?

 

You will only have power at the coil for about 3 seconds after turning the key on, unless the PCM sees the engine turning.

What's your fuel pressure look like?
