Default Speedometer Pinion Gear

I'm looking for the correct speedometer pinion gear for my 1997 Dakota, 3.9L, 4x4, auto (42RE), and 3.92 rear gear. The truck had 235 tires on it when I bought it. I just installed 31x10.50R15s. I'm getting conflicted information from the various parts websites. The TCI Auto calculator says I need a ~33 tooth gear. The Mopar parts website are all over the place but the best I can figure out is it needs a 38 tooth gear. Does anyone have the same truck that came with the 31s, the 3.92 gears, and knows the number of teeth on their gear?

What color is the drive gear, and what color is the current driven gear?

I haven't pulled the gear yet. I was hoping to have a replacement in hand first. My previous 97 Dakota came with the 31" tires. I believe I pulled a 34 or 36 tooth gear out of it (green?).

It's one bolt to pull the VSS, and have a look, might get a little bit of fluid out, but, that's it.

Yep. That doesn't bother me. However, when I pulled it on my last truck the uber-sensitive wires seemed to break. Some days I'd get in the truck and would have no indicated speed on the speedometer until I wiggled the wires on the VSS. I'll pull it when I get home.

That means is time to splice in a new connector.

Yeah, the wires just aren't very big, therefore, not real durable...... They last longer than the warranty though.

I have the red, 36-tooth pinion gear in my transfer case.

I did. It says I need a 33 tooth gear. However, it conflicts with the Mopar websites I am coming across that says it should have a 38 tooth gear with the 31" tires and 3.92 gears. Hence, why I'm asking for folks that have pulled their gear and know which it should be.
