What determines the towing capacity?
I have a 2004 dakota 4wd, 4d, 3.7L auto, I just put in a new engine due to problems with the valve seats (at 206k) and am wanting to do a new transmission.....
I want to be able to tow an rv camper and everything Ive read says the towing capacity is 4150lbs
Is there anything that can be done to the truck to increase the max weight?
thanks

No. The tow rating is determined by engine/trans/gears/brakes. It doesn't matter what you do to your truck, the local authorities, and your insurance company, will still only look at the number provided by the manufacturer. If your trailer is over that rating, the police will be rather offended, and your insurance company may deny any claim should you have an accident. Worse still, in the event of an accident, if you get sued, YOU will be responsible for any judgement, as your insurance company won't cover you. If you want to tow a heavier trailer, get a bigger truck.
