Default 04 Dakota stuck in 4wd lo

Selector switch - blinking LED on 4wd hi and 2wd when switched to either of those settings, but 4wd lo LED remains on not blinking.

Fuse is good.

How to check crankcase control module?

Connection at transfer case actuator appears clean, disconnect/reconnects OK. Not sure about how to correctly check actuator windings continuity to ground (I assume it's two position). There IS continuity between the two actuator posts.

What happens if I attempt to drive it with the crankcase actuator disconnected? Is there a default/deenergized position of the transfer case? i.e. is it 'normally' in 2wd?

Any direction/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Neighbor told me how to 'fix' it by driving it in reverse in a straight line for 50 yds, put it in neutral and turn the selector switch to 2wd.

It worked!
