Default So... another v8 swap post...

Hey all, I’m making plans for when I pick up the Dakota. I want to 5.2 swap it, I understand what I have to do to get the motor to use a different rad (what will Work) electrical fan, wiring harness and computer from a ram anddddd fab some motor mounts which shouldn’t be hard unless someone says it’ll just drop in. But with the harness... do I go 5 speed or get everything for a 46re as well? That’s where I’m stuck, nobody seems to have swapped in a 46, they all swap into a 5speed!

Get the 5.2 as complete as you can, including motor mounts, or get poly motor mounts from HiPoTek (they are made to order). The 46RE will directly swap in place of the 42RE as long as they are the same sub-generation (99-/00+). Use the same radiator you have now, just use V8 hoses.

Dodge Ram, Ram Van, Dakota, and Durango engine harnesses are all different, and harnesses are different for different years (I think the grouping is 97, 98/99, 00/01, 02/03 maybe 04). Either add in the wires for injectors 7 and 8 into the V6 harness, or get the proper harness for the body and year from junkyard.

so what you’re telling my is if I get a 99 46 it’ll go right in and plug up with my 99 dakota? Also interesting that you bring up the simple adding of injector plugs, was reading up on it but nothing is clear in any post. Just a lot of rambling! What would I have to do for that? If I do everything like this will it pass an inspection for composite vehicle title and a state emissions test assuming I install cats of course

No need for composite vehicle title. That's for body and chassis with different VIN. Engine swap has no legal holding - most insurance companies won't even be interested in knowing if you swapped.

42/44/46 are all fundamentally and electrically the same within the generation split at 99-/00+. Direct swap.

I'm still learning on adding injectors myself. I have a junkyard harness in my closet that eventually I will sit down and learn how the PCM connectors work to add in the wires.
