Gage light

My gage light goes on when I start a trip and goes off after I stop. When the light goes on my battery gage goes to zero. I have no problem starting my truck. It is a 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 5.9 l engine.

Got a loose connection, or bad ground somewhere.
