Crank sensor stuck in block
I got the code for the crank sensor (P0340)? and its experiencing similar issues related to that. Its my first Dakota and I could use some tips. Its running rougher now so I guess I will go for it and try to get this sensor out. I have been using WD40 and PB Blaster for a week and its still very stuck. Im only trying to gently wiggle it out as my mechanic told me its a "Big $$$ job if the oil pan has to be dropped to retrieve the broken sensor". It looks like the oil pan is right next to the sensor, but may not come out the hole. That would be too easy of course! Anyway was wondering what your thoughts were to loosen this thing up?? Its frozen pretty good. Is it crazy to start drilling some holes in it, (not deep), to get more PB in there? Im screwed once the sensor is busted up but what else can I do? I have read the post where a guy used a lag bolt then carefully torched the sensor before getting it out. Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. Im all in now and trying to get this out since yesterday. Can anyone confirm the "oil pan" comment from a local mechanic? I have not read anywhere that if the metal tip of the sensor falls into the oil pan, its a "14 hr labor job". Thanks.
Good thing you got it out. And it's not quite 14 billable hours, probably closer to 9 to drop the oil pan. Engine has to partially come out to get the pan off on our trucks.

Use a SHARP drill bit, rather small, and drill a hole into it as close to center as you can get, then, put a screw slightly larger than the hole into the hole. Use the screw as a handle to pull it out. Be warned, it may come out in pieces.....

Yes, it's a pain to drop the pan. 14 hours? I would like to think that is an exaggeration..... but, I've been wrong before.
