Default 2002 dodge dakota exhaust smells

When starting first time in the morning the exhaust smells like gas. After the first start all other starts are ok until it sets for a while. Any suggestions

Hows your gas mileage? Notice any changes lately?

Might be a leaky injector.

What engine?

Sorry it is a 2002 dodge dakota 4.7 v8 club cab automatic 4X4. I bought this from the original owner and he said that it has done this from the day he got it. It has just gotten worse. Like I said it just does it first start up in the morning or after it has sat for a while. If you drive it say for 20 min and stop and come back 30 min later and start it there is no smell. I also need to know if the fuel filter and fuel regulator are in the fuel pump or are they separate. Can not find anything definite on this.
Tks Bennie
