There's not even a good way to fix that, either. All you can really do is band-aid oit by pop-rivetting some sheet metal over/around the hole where any good steel still exists

I cut back until I got good metal. Painted everything with Rust Bullet paint. Pounded a piece of sheet metal to fit and cover the entire area.Rust Bullet on the patch. Riveted on with ample amounts of RTV to ensure the seal. Top coat with rubberized undercoating. Now besides welding the patch on what would have been the better way? Welding would have created a lot of issues with the inside tar like panels. Rivets are perfectly fine. I also put a little elbow on the AC tube to make the water go out more and "adjusted" the heat shield so the water flows in front of the shield instead of behind the shield and down the firewall.

That's really all you can do. A tacking TIG style weld could minimize the heat to other panels, but they'd likely still melt....and it takes for effing either to make a couple hundred tacks.
