Question 2002 RT v8 tranny into 2002 v6

Hey all,

I have a 2002 V6 single cab and the transmission is going on her, there's a 2002 RT V8 extended cab selling for $800.00. I'm planning on using the truck for parts. Are the transmissions interchangeable? Will I run into any issues?

Any help on this matter would be awesome.

02 for 02 should be a direct swap. AS LONG AS it is 3.9 to (5.2/)5.9 OR 3.7 to 4.7 . The *.9 and *.7 transmissions are not interchangable.

One thing to keep in mind, the RT should be a 5.9, if it runs, why not drop it in? Anyway, RT 5.9 stock is a 46RE, the 3.9 has a 42RE. You can use the 46re fine, but your takeoff/low pulling power will suffer a little. 1st and 2nd gears are taller on the 46re vs the 42/44RE. It is, however, a much more robust transmission. You might not notice a difference depending on what your rear differential is. If you have a 3.91 or 4.10 shouldn't hurt much. 3.55 or 3.23, likely might notice it.
