Default 99 dakota limp mode problem

Hi everyone, I have a 99 dakota sport 4x4 with the 3.9 auto. It is stuck in limp mode and I am starting my diagnosis. I have checked fuses and am moving to the TCM to check for proper power and ground, but reading other posts it says to check pin 56 for power, my tcm has 3 plugs, each numbered to 31. I am hoping someone can ID the pin that I need to check on this TCM. Thanks in advance.

A bad TPS has been reported to cause this sometimes.

Dakotas did not have a dedicated TCM until the 4.7/545RFE combination came around, I believe 2003 . Until then, all transmission control was done through the powertrain control module, which had the 3 connectors.

How do you know it is in limp mode? I do not recall the early PCM's having that feature.

You likely have the 42RE trans, or maybe a 44RE.

Just what symptoms are you experiencing? Does it not want to shift? Shift too late/early??
