I had the same thing on mine. The brake switch, down in the foot pedal area. Unplug the connector, turn the module and it will come out. Don't jack around with the new one. Install it, plug it up and it's ready to go. The switch plunger will release and set itself after the first use.
Well thats a problem I own a 98 Dakota the brake light switch is different than a 99 and up Dakota so the instructions given do NOT apply.
So back to guessing how to remove and install this thing I think its about the same but not so obvious. Looks like its a square hole not slotted and as you twist it it expands the prongs on the sides out or in to lock it in or unlock it.
