OK I should know this but I don't.

My brake lights were stuck on last night I pumped the brakes a few times and they turned off.

Question whats the problem or the fix I'm guessing some switch on the brake pedal?

 

Yes, check the brake switch on the pedal.

 

Great my favorite place to do DIY work under the dash does it just pop off and on I cant tell by a pic of the switch?

 

I had the same thing on mine. The brake switch, down in the foot pedal area. Unplug the connector, turn the module and it will come out. Don't jack around with the new one. Install it, plug it up and it's ready to go. The switch plunger will release and set itself after the first use.

You're welcome. I attached the procedure and pic from the service manual. Don't mess with the release lever on the new one until you've installed it.

 

OK so it twists off and on that's what the product pic's don't show.

 

Well thats a problem I own a 98 Dakota the brake light switch is different than a 99 and up Dakota so the instructions given do NOT apply.

So back to guessing how to remove and install this thing I think its about the same but not so obvious. Looks like its a square hole not slotted and as you twist it it expands the prongs on the sides out or in to lock it in or unlock it.

 

Back to the old problem of no 98 Dakota service manual to help out us 98 Dakota owners.
