Default u-joint question

I'm getting ready to do the transmission output/rear seal and figured since the drive shaft is off and maybe I'll replace the u-joints as well. '98 Dakota CC, 4x4, 5.2, 44RE, 231D HD.

I was looking at the u-joint by the rear differential and it has a clip that runs from one side to the other. Does anyone know what that's for? I haven't seen anyone mention it nor do I see it in parts lists. Do I need it, and if so does it need special c-clips to attach it? Thanks.

I believe that's just a 'collar' to keep the caps from coming off on the assembly line. You don't really need it.

That thought occurred to me after I posted the message when I was under there again painting on the alignment marks, that they were for keeping the caps from coming off during assembly. I agree not needed.
Thanks.
