Default hard steering

i drive a '00 dakota sport 4X4 4.7 V8 and i have noticed that if i don't drive it for a day or so and the weather is real cold outside, then when i get in to drive it, it is difficult to steer at first but after a couple of turns, i don't even notice it anymore. like i said, i have only noticed this is when it is real cold outside. what do you guys think i should do?

I have the same problem but its because the power steering fluid hasn't circulated completley yet. No big deal

If no one has said it to you yet, welcome! There are few reasons to have the fluid changed or even flushed out of a PS system, you may have one. Check your fluid, if it looks like crud - change it, just cap off the return at the pump and have the return line go down to a catch basin (like the one you would use to change your oil), start the truck (preferablly have your buddy do that), and refill with new fluid. When i got my truck, it was driven hard (was owned by So. Cal. edison) and I had the same problem, untill i changed my fluid. If the fluid change doesn't help, and there was A LOT of crud in the PS system, it needs to be flushed, flush kits are avalable at my local autoparts store (so i think they would be avalable to you too) just follow the instructions. If the fluid is or looks good - ??? good luck!

Could be a sign of the PS rack going bad.
