I picked up a 2002 Durango. its totaled but it still drives. I pulled the drivetrain, 4.7 4x4 non lsd rear end. i pulled off a bunch of other odd ball stuff, pcm, tcm, door switches, radio, instrument cluster etc.

Before it goes to the scrap yard i was wondering if swapping the backing plates from the durango to the dakota, and adding new 11" shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and drums is all i need to do for the bigger brakes. Thanks!

 

Yes that's all you'd need for the hardware install.

One thing to consider is that the proportioning valve in your truck is set up for the 9" brakes. The antilock should keep the rears from locking up but you might notice a difference.

The front brakes do most of the work when stopping.

Does this work with both differential sizes? We have the 9" brakes on the smaller differential,2000 Dakota with the ten bolt cover would like to swap in the elevens if possible

Should. The axel ends are identical.
