I’m swapping a 5.9 into a 4x4 03 dakota 3.9 SXT, the 5.9 is in the machine shop as we speak, and i pulled the 3.9 and made the mistake of cutting some wires, i was wondering if a 97 ram 1500 automatic 4x4 5.2l v8 engine transmission wiring harness would work for the 5.9? I pulled the 5.9 from a 2wd 98 ram 1500, but also would i be able to use that ECU from the 2wd 98 ram as well? thanks

 

You have to use your Dakota harness and a computer out of a Dakota or have yours reprogramed for a 5.9.

 

Oof. Mixing 5.9 and 03. Did the 03 come with the 5.9 as an option? I thought that's when the pushrod motors were phased out...

Dakota PCM is different from ram PCM. And wayyy different among the years. I'm not even sure what year PCM you need, given the above...if a 2003 5.9 PCM exists, that will be your only option. I seem tor ecall somethign changed again in wiring in 03, but it was subtle?

Harness wise, your best option will be splicing the connections back..
