I don't know if I would have bought a truck with a potty mouth. Why else would it need to be censored?

Seriously, when I saw you have trouble getting up a mountain, I'm thinking something other than fuel is your problem. In an earlier post, I asked if it was pulling good vacuum. The reason for that was if it sat for a while, mice may have made a nest in the muffler or it may have rusted inside and collapsed. This will plug you up like too much cheese. When I reread the original post, where you said it had 145,000 miles, the penny dropped (2 actually, inflation you know ) I'll bet dollars to donuts your timing chain was loose enough to jump a tooth. Chrysler's engines, at least the older ones, will run with a jumped tooth. They will NOT have any power. I had a '54 Dodge with the 241 Hemi years ago. When it jumped time, it ran just fine. It could barely get over a hill to get home. A 241 Hemi had plenty of power for the day and could really scoot.

Check both fuel and vacuum pressure. However, listen to your timing cover. I'll bet there's a shika-shika-shika sound coming from it. All these parts being thrown at the truck won't fix that. You'll probably need to replace the timing set. There is also an updated timing tensioner that came out in the late 90's. Replacing this will really wake your truck up. I've gotten many vehicles through the years that the previous owner got tired of fooling with and many times it was a timing issue.

Make sure it IS a timing chain issue. If it is, replacing it will give you more power, better fuel economy and the heater will probably run you out.

Do you have feral cats around your house? I see you're in the NorthWest and it's been cool there. If you don't have cats, mice may have built a nest in your exhaust. Usually when a vehicle sits for a while but I've seen them do it over night. Look for a little mouse with a uniform. (A door mouse. ) Seriously, a vacuum reading will tell you where to track the problem down at.

I love the OBD II systems but I still use my wooden stick, volt/ohm meter and vacuum gauge to track down problems. I've just added a code reader to the mix. (Yes, I did say wooden stick.)

yea if it drops to 25 under flow then you've got an issue. Should hold about 52 pounds at all times.

You think. I've learned that Murphy will raise legal objections at times. At least you now have experience and that speed things up.
