Default Blower won't work

Morning y'all!

I have a 2003 Dakota that I replaced the heater core 5 years ago (that was something else) and I also replaced the resistor then as well.

Fast forward to about a week ago I started to smell a electrical burning smell. When I looked under the dash I saw the wires going to the resistor were wrapped in duct tape and those were burnt together. I cut the tape off to expose the wires and to see what all I got to work with. The black/tan wire was completely exposed with heavy corrosion. The connector at the resistor also had corroded on the same wire.

I went to O'Reilly and bought a new resistor and resistor wiring harness. I had the original 5 different color wires coming from behind the blower motor but in the new harness I got 10 wires. 5 were of a larger gauge and green while 5 were a smaller gauge and purple. Subsequently, I connected all the OEM wires to the same size green wires, plugged them into the resistor and nothing.

Just to troubleshoot, I've checked the fuses (unless there's a relay on a 03 Dakota I can't find it) and all is well. The fuse prongs are pulling 12.9. Disconnected the motor wire harness and ran a hot/ground wire from the battery to the motor and it runs accordingly. Checked the harness for the motor and it also shows 13 but now I'm at my wits end.

Anything else I could check today? It's supposed to get well below freezing later this week. Thank you kindly!

The blower motor is fed hot through the ignition switch - no relay on an '03. It's on it's own circuit.

Check for +12 at the blower motor to a good clean ground. It should be a dark green wire.
If that checks, verifiy your ground.
