Default 2004 dodge dakota.

Ok so I have a 2004 dodge dakota. Really nice truck. Runs good. But when I really give it the gas I hear this computer whining noise coming from under the hood. Idk what it could be. It acts like it runs fine. Just when I give it to much gas I get the strange whine. Please help.

Open the hood, have someone step on the gas (in park with the emergency brake on, of course) and see if you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

And do it at night, with all lights out.

I bet you have an arc jumping spark plug wires, or jumping from a plug wire to ground.

Don't ask how I know. It doesn't take darkness to see it on what we have....and it's not quite just a "whine". But on a production setup, that would describe it exactly.

It could be you have a pulley that's dried out. Take off the serpentine belt and try turning everything in its path by hand. Everything should feel silky smooth. Anything rough or chalky in the least bit might be your culprit.

I had to replace my AC compressor idler and tensioner pulley in the past. I learned to regrease "sealed" pulley bearings and never looked back. Got a thread somewhere on it.
