Default Flag?

When you talk about removing the “flag” once it’s flipped, what and where is it? I too have a 97 that completely rebuilt. Started when put new engine in. I’m told I must have accidentally locked it and now it won’t shut security off. I get no fire or gas. My reference voltage is only 1.9 volts. Yes I’ve put in a new pcm. Twice. Still nothing.

Right mine does not have security. Remote door locks only. Does that mean the PCMs for these years don't have a security option?

Ive read where the "security flag" is set in the pcm. What year was the engine you put in? I've read the if it's the security lockout, engine will fire run a few seconds and stall.

Checked ASD relay, fuel pump, injector, map, Iac, air cooland sensor, crankshaft and camshaft sensors, coil.
Yes, PCM was exact match for the first one and jus the letters at the end were different on the last one I tried.,

I'm on my third PCM and the same issue. Starts, runs, then dies after two seconds. Injectors are loosing power.
Does anyone have the pinout for the 97 Dakota 318 P56040382AD PCM?

Do these trucks have an oil pressure safety sensor on them? If so, might be the problem. The PCM will override the oil pressure on startup because there's no oil pressure until the engine is running, but once it's running it will kill the engine if oil pressure doesn't reach a high enough pressure to protect the engine. Kinda sounds like that is the problem.

There also comes a point when you must take it in for a diagnostic, which should cost an hour's shop time. You may be at that point now.

To my knowledge, 97-99 PCM do not have the capability for security shutdown. I'm not sure if there is an alarm tied to RKE or not, but I don't think so. On 00 and newer, the CTM handles the security command and passes the ACK/NACK to thePCM.

I'm to the point of shooting in the dark.
I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor, and even unplugged the CTM.
No luck, same problem starts runs then dies. Looses pulse at the injectors.

I've got a OBDII reader but maybe I need to find a scan tool to help diagnose.
What's the best affordable scan tool for our dodges? Handheld or laptop will work.

MT2500 with proper card, or a DRB3. Both are about twice the cost of taking it to the shop if your insurance covers the tow.

Not the same model vehicle but I'd bout bet the wiring is the same.
