Default Thermostat Question

Hi All,

About 2 months ago, I noticed my engine temp fluctuating a bit erratically. I went ahead and changed the engine temp sensor and thermostat. I then did a full coolant change and burped the cooling system. Problem solved. The other day the truck overheated out of nowhere. I identified a leak at the water pump inlet and saw that I had lost a good deal of coolant. Replaced the part, topped off the coolant, burped the system. For some reason now my engine seems to take longer than normal to get to operating temperature. I started it up this morning and in my 15 min commute, the engine had not reached operating temp by the time I arrived. As of a few days ago, my truck coolant needle would sit just left of the 210 reading on the gauge and occasionally fluctuate slightly past it and then back down. The thermostat I installed is the OEM recommended 195 degrees. Now it seems to take forever to get to that point on the gauge. During my 15 min drive back (only there for 20 minutes) it never climbed above about halfway between the 130 and the 210 mark. Could this brand new thermostat possibly have failed already? Keep in mind the cooling fan is coming on no problem. Thanks in advance guys!

Did you install a 'safety stat' by any chance? They are notorious for failing at the least excuse.

Does sound like it failed though.
