I agree with magnethead any strong cleaner will do just be sure to flush the part off with lots of say water to remove any remaining strong cleaner. Purple power is a very strong cleaner letting the part soak for a few minutes helps and a brush to break the crud loose were gloves it's that strong. Be sure to use some WD40 on iron parts when finished to prevent flash rust.
