36 mm

I used a strip of cardboard to protect the fan pulley and gripped the edge of the pulley (with the cardboard over it) with a channel lock. Locked the channel lock against something nearby and that stopped it from turning. With the pulley immobilized, I used a larger channel lock to pull the fan bolt. An open end wrench works too, of course.

I left the serpentine belt on, put an adjustable wrench on the fan nut, and smacked it with a hammer a couple times to get it to break loose. Once it did, I could spin it off by hand.
