Okay, I've gonna through every fuse and replaced the brake light switch under the dash, still no brake lights. I also have no back up lights either. Everything else still working. There is no towing package under those truck not any wiring for a trailer.

 

Didn't the lights work when you jumped the switch though??

 

The brake lights worked when I drove the truck home but none of the other lights did. Now that I've fixed all the other lights the brake lights don't work nor the backup lights. I never did jump any lights across anything. when I started finding excess wiring I found a switch under the steering column in the dash that had three wires coming out of it but only one was hooked up and it was a ground.

 

My truck didn't have a tow package either, I added in a Hoppy harness that over time gave me all kinds of troubles.

Reverse lights are a super simple circuit. Basically, 12 volts goes from ignition-on to the 3-post sensor on the transmission. That, then forwards the 12V to the reverse lights, which ground somewhere.

Brakes lights are similar. Battery voltage to brake switch to taillights.

You need to verify if you are lacking voltage or ground.

Verify you're getting 12 volts to the Neutral Safety/Backup Lamp switch on the transmission. The N/S post grounds to the trans case in Park or Neutral, the other 2 posts should have power on one side and lamps on the other, and connect in reverse.

 

You say brake lights, what about the rear running lights and blinkers? Some folks refer to the rear lights as just "brake lights" when they actually serve three functions, running, braking and turn signaling. What exactly doesn't work in the back? Do the running lights work, and do the rear lights flash when the left/right turn signals are on? If none of the rear lighting is working, then it could be the harness under the rear of the bed.

 

Brake lights and backup lights are the lights that aren't working. Parking lights blinkers and hazards are working.
