Noise when releasing clutch
Hey, my 02 4x4, 4.7, CC just started to make a noise when releasing clutch in first or reverse. I push in the clutch, normal no noise. I push in the clutch, release in neutral, no noise. I push in the clutch release in first and there is a grinding, chirping sound. No grabbing and everything is smooth. Pilot bearing? Truck has only 85,000 miles on it.

Just my 2 cents, but I'd think if pilot bearing was bad, it would only be making noise when clutch is pushed in, input/crank speed differences spinning the bearing. When clutch is let out pilot bearing shouldn't really be doing much.
I would go into it as if replacing the complete clutch package. If it turns out to be more, the trans is already out. Your description of grinding causes an eyebrow to raise a bit.... People describe noises differently. I would also resurface the flywheel. Good luck, keep us posted.
"Grinding' as in the sound a dying bearing makes. This noise started Friday and today after my 25 mile commute to work, the clutch took a dump. Not able to shift into first while engine running. I had to switch off, shift into first and proceed. Hard to shift every gear. I did get it to a shop, one I trust. Funny thing, this will be the second time in 20 plus years I've had a shop do a repair. We'll see what they find.
