tranny rebuild...$2000!!!!!
I have a '97 4x4 v6 with auto tranny. The tranny is not wanting to shift from 2nd to third very easily. it holds the RPMs until I let up off the gas then it will shift and it hits hard when it does. I took it to the dealership because I was told it was just the bands needing adjustment. They said it was more then that and most likly a bad seal and the tranny will need a rebuild. I took it to AAMCO and they told me the same. Has anyone experienced this? Does this sound about right to you? Also, is $2k unusally high for a rebuild?
I had an '96 v6 auto that needed a tranny rebuilt. I was getting estimates from $1900 to $2300.. I ended up selling the truck, cause it just wasnt worth putting the money into, Managed to get rid of it just in time. The guy who bought it put a tranny into it, then blew a road in the motor like 4 months later.
yes i was considering that. If i put 2K down on a new dak I could get that v8 i've been wanting. But I've already sunk 2K into when I first got it with new ball joint, tires, radiator, timing chain and engine flushes of all sorts. What i did see though was a rebuilt 44re tranny going for about 1k on ebay. I've only ever swappet out my civics tranny. I don't know what its like on a truck.
Well if you swapped a fwd tranny before, then this one will be a snap for you. rwd trannies are alot easier to remove. Just drop both drive shafts, support the trans/transfer case assembly, remove the bellhousing bolts to the motor and then the trans crossmember supports and lower the tranny. Make sure you unhook teh converter.
One reason I drive sticks only.

for a 4x4 2 G's is right on the money. i got quoted 2600 for a heavy duty rebuild with shift kit and xtra fluid cooler on my 46RE (all installed, when i blow the tranny up i dont want them crying that it was due to improper installation. slightly more labor in a 4wd but still very easy if youve done a Fwd tranny swap. dig in n get dirty, itll save you about 400 bucks at the tranny shop.
