Default Transfer case linkage

I just replaced the transfer case in my 98 Dakota with one from a 2001 Durango. Both were NP 231 cases and look and work just the same.

The problem is, the linkage is not working correctly.

On my old one the positions from the firewall back towards the seat were 2Hi-4Hi-Shift R-N-4Lo. On the replacement case the positions from the firewall are 4Lo-N-Shift R-2Hi-4Hi. Everything works fine, all lights come on and off correctly, so that is good. I kinda like having 2Hi and 4Hi out front where I can reach them easily and the others back by the firewall, so that is good.

My question is, can I fix this with a newer shift **** or will it take different linkage to get back to the old setup?

Thanks
Steve

The transfer case shift pattern is still the same. Only way to change that, is to change the transfer case.....
