Default Question

I recently purchased a 1998 Dodge Dakota with the extended cab powered with the 318 engine. The truck currently has 75,836 miles on it. In addition, I have the automatic transmission. At first, I declined the extended warranty that the dealer offered me but after thinking about the issue of possible break down, I have decided to look into the warranty plans that are available. I am a college student so I am looking for a plan that is at a reasonable cost but would cover a possible transmission failure. The question that I have is where did the readers get their extended warranties and if you all had any words of advice for me? Thanks so much and have a great day!

usually when you buy a used vehicle they have a company that the dealer works with who will offer various warrenties(spelling, i'm tired) Just get one for the tranny and be careful of the wording. Make sure your not just covered in case a gear snaps in half or the transmission blows up...or something lame like that that doesn't really happen.

I bought mine at a Dodge dealership. They offered a extended warranty from Chrysler. I went with the "Powertrain" package which covers the Engine, Trans, 4x4 components, and Steering Stuff. I think that warranty ran about $1000 or so ... Well worth it in my opinion, it covers all the expensive junk

Another I dea for you to look into is most Credit Unions offer extended packages. When I had my R/T I had and extended to 70,000 from the dealer and I had another one that would take effect as soon as the truck reached 70k from my credit union. The great thing about those is that if you sell you vehicle(like I did) before the warrenty is up or even takes effect you get a partial refund on the one that isn't used up and a full refund on the one that hadn't even started.

But be very careful of the wording on all warrenties. They can get very trickey, like with mine I had to keep all me oil change reciepts and any other matenence records, and I couldn't do any major repairs myself.

i agree watch the wordying like a hawk and Most if Not all require you to keep all basic matince records like oil and filter change yata yata. And make sure it covers the whole thing example say transmission not just parts in it but the whole unit as a whole. good luck and try and stay away from them shady looking warrenties you no the 1s that sound to good to be true :/ .
