Light reverse thunk
What could that thunk noise, i hear only when in reverse, if i have braked a bit firm or hard , right then after braking..
Started about 2 weeks after replacing rear..
If i go super light an slow it wont do it .
Maybe those 4 U bolts holding the rear maybe? Whats the Ft lbs?
An whats ft lb on 4 driveshaft bolts
Can anything brake wise do it like park brake cable or that reverse self adjust piece?
Im gonna really tighten em.
i did use the original ones though .
Im guessing that after driving a few weeks i just need to retighten those bolts
Any info is appreciated

When you swapped rear ends, did you put new u-joints in? Something probably needs retightening, but go with the proper torque specs. Too tight can cause problems too.
Ill have to check again..
Tightened em up an still on hard brake thunk.
Ill get a friend to stand at each area an see exactly where its at .
So over tightening U bolts will give a thump too? I need to get the FT lbs to set it on.
I did take lower control arm off to drill out those darn stud ball joints Maybe that factored things ..

You might also check for rotational slop in the rear at the pinion. Just put the truck in neutral and try to rotate the drive shaft. I don't think that's your problem but it's one thing to eliminate.
Yes I will definately check that. New u joints, so thats unlikely a factor..
This seems to only happen on level surface an not every time.,I tried to test it at a auto parts store that had a slope or slight incline an couldnt get it to make the thunk..
i was searching threads an saw someone speaking on brakes doing it also..I must say the brakes that were on that rear end i put on might need adjusting and or the park brake.
Is that self adjusting part a possible factor since it happens in reverse?
Also the drums may not be equal on wear but i dont think that can do it..
Any info is appreciated.

The self adjuster could, but I doubt it. I can't recall ever hearing it operate except when I was adjusting it by hand when doing a brake job. If your brakes are soft but getting better, it's adjusting. Eventually it will firm up and stay that way.
You have disc brakes in the rear. There is no adjusting the regular brake pads... only bleeding it. You adjust the parking brakes, which sit inside the combo disc/hub. I don't think the reverse self adjuster takes up a whole bunch of slop. You take of the wheels, throw it in neutral then turn the drums by hand, adjusting the star wheel adjuster till you feel a bit of resistance, which means the parking brake shoes are just barely brushing the inside of the hub. Lube contact parts with brake lube on a toothbrush while there.
One thing that can happen, that may be causing your sound, is the original parking brake shoe liners usually see the glue failing and fall off in the hub. You'd feel the parking brake get sloppy and useless though.

Drum brakes in back..
I reajusted that parking brake ,was a bit looser than I liked ,an both those adjusters an cleaned up an checked brake hardware ,tightened up shocks a bit more that was at rear end ,an a few small tweek tighening including front left area suspention parts an then, took it to a open flat area ,an that took care of it....for now..time will tell !
Update...it happened again an seems to hit more as ive stopped during REVERSE TURNING- at stop point ,before putting it back in drive , but not every time..
Would old U bolts really factor this ? Almost seems steering related.
