Question 2002 Dakota 4.7 Power Steering Pump

Hello All. First time poster. Long time reader. I have a 2002 extended cab Dakota Sport 4.7, 5-speed manual in need of a power steering pump. I see a few different manufacturers pumps available. I have read on various posts in this forum through the years that some of the forum folks have had leaking issues when purchasing certain manufacturer's pumps. I am looking at buying either a Mopar remanufactured, Cardone or Osias pump and wanted to know what your experiences are , good or bad, in the quality of their products. In the discussions here through the years, I have read threads of replacing steering pumps 2 or 3 times until they find one that doesnt leak. I really dont want to go through that if possible. I am just looking for a pump with the lowest potential of having leak or other issues. Thanks for a great forum.

I would go with the Mopar reman, given those choices.

Last time I had to do a p/s pump though..... I went thru four of 'em before I got one that actually worked, and even that one still whines.

I bought a mopar one that was new from SummitRacing... got it installed and found the pully shaft was bent! GRRRR Ended up yanking it and going back to stock to get the truck back up. Once that was squared away a week or two later I ended up getting a Cardone "New" pump with a "lifetime" warranty. Went ahead and slapped it in there and sure enough, it whined... motored on thinking I'd pull it out down the road and swap it out and.... the whining stopped over time. So far I have had no issues with it other then the whine at the install. i have 50~55k miles on it now and still no problem.

I would not hesitate to tell the counter guy NO on any reman Cardone pump, but the experience with the new one has been ok to date. FWIW, 465k on the truck, 50~55k on the pump.

Call AGR Performance at (817) 626-9006 and tell them I sent you. He might have a TC pump on the shelf. Everything Josh & John make is new - I can see that because i've watched it done in person. He's been a customer of mine for several years.
