Default Help with skim

Goals:
1) 100% mpg improvement. As of now 1/1/2022 the goal is 20 mpg on the work commute, ~35 mi one way, lots of hills.
2) As much part throttle torque between 1400-2500ish rpms.

Mods (Starting): 70mm TB, Airaid intake tube, stock air box, fuel rail wrapped, (maybe fan clutch delete + 180* stat + front end mods to get CT's to 190~195*)

Mods (During): Fan clutch delete, 180* stat, bed seals, royal purple 75w-90 gear oil in the diffs (still running the flush gear oil which is 85w-90 iirc), front air dam, possibly a short belly pan to control flow under the truck.

Anyone who has experiences & wanting to share, feel free... Currently truck was getting 16.3~16.5 mpg's with the old TB & 40's for ambient temps (this is pretty consistent). With the current cold weather event here 13.3~13.5 are what I'm getting, but that is in 20* weather driving in snow & ice. 40's are returning just in time to go back to work so I should have the 70mm TB comparison done mid next week.

Attached is a stock 5.9 JTEC file pulled from HPT repository. Anyone wanting to take a look, I believe the HPT s/w is still available to download @ no cost. Need the beta version 4.4 or greater IIRC.

reference thread for content, need to compare discussion content against jtec file parameters to see if they would apply...

Is there a tune file out there with the skim disabled. I have a 2005 dodge Dakota 4.7 v8 magnum. I plan on flashing the 5.9 v8 tune to my truck to test. Thanks

Bringing this back from the dead...

Erased PCM on the bench and working on the wiring to do a bench flash on it.

One question I dont know the answer to is... do I need the TCM in the loop to do a successful write? I have an email with that question out to HPT.

I'm not 100% sure, but they are both stand alone, so my guess would be, no, doesn't matter.

Update...

Went JY dumpster diving the day before t--day and came away with 2 ECUs that should work on my Dak. I have not tried them yet but I was able to get a successful read out of both of them using HP Tuners VCM Editor. I have an email out to the tech support guy helping me with some questions, after I get a response, and after I get both of these ECUs tested in the truck and know 100% that they work w/o issue then will do another write attempt on one of them.

Ideally one of them has the 3.55 ABS value in it so the speedo is closer to what is ideal. That one will forever become an un-touched backup. I have learned that I can get my hands on a DRB3 tool to update all 3 ECUs with the correct VIN & ABS value, will pursue that soon.

In the HPT tune file I can see the fan parameters that need to be set for running w/o the mechanical fan & fan clutch, it is set for 219*... ouch. The plan is to set it at 200~203*f and run the volvo fan + custom shroud with the 180* stat. Currently the motor runs at 188~190*f with the mech fan installed, a tad bit low. Looking to get it running at ~195*

Anyways, have not given up on it...

Yep, I paid about 1K for my DRB3 a few years ago (private party, DCX senior tech that got promoted to an office job) and its 7000A cable is starting to give me fits.

As far as PCM's - the speedometer pinion correction is stored in the ABS module, not the PCM. So your speedometer should be the same regardless of which PCM you use. That said, if you have SKIM you'll need to re-pair the SKIM module to each PCM. You'll need a 4 digit SKIM code that you can get from the dealer with proof of ownership of the vehicle.

Update... VIN has been updated in the ECM, brake & abs lights continue to illuminate. Going to order a backup ECM since finding one in a JY has proven to be difficult.
