Back home & looking at the tune... I see the various power enrichment settings and will play with them. One thing I need to understand is how far I can push timing on the lower rpm range under various loads.

This made me think about the injector timing, is it static based off cam sensor? Will fill it up this weekend to see how mpg's panned out. Out again next week so no commute mpg testing.

tank short filled... 169 miles 15.636 mpg on a mixed tank, city/hiway. no idea what the mix was but there was 80 miles of hiway to & from the airport. Out again next week & 90% sure the week after so it will be a bit before I get back to a work commute mpg check.

Did an 80 mi, 100% eco drive road trip today, excellent conditions weather wise, speeds in the 60-64 mph range. 95% hiway. Tank was 19.50* mpg.

I did find the upper limit on timing in an area of the tune and just dialed it back 1.5* it was in the very low vacuum 1600-2000 rpm range. I ran half a tank of mid grade when i filled it up to get me by for the day. Tune is updated now. Also on the previous tune i reduced the minimum pulse with limiter by 100ms & it sits at 1650 now. May drop it further on the next download

While this is only an 80 mi day trip, i have only seen 2 other 19+ mpg tanks so this is good.

Update... or lack of. Been on travel so have not been home to put miles on it. No immediate end in sight for at least the next 1 maybe 2 weeks. Will update when I have info to share.

Looks like its been a month since the last update... Retuned it today, been seeing 15.6~15.8 mpg under city/hiway driving conditions. Zero work commute miles, closest to it was that 80ish mile day trip where I managed 19+ mpg.

Today I dropped in a tune that pulls the pulse width back in the areas of the tune that get hit during city driving, not sure how much I did but took it for a spin and power is down as expected in those areas. zero pinging on the test drive with ambient temps around 60*F. Still running the worst fuel while tuning. It is pretty clear now that additional power could be had with adjusting the injector PW. Mid 15's is not bad for the power it had.

Still have the y-pipe to do and the y-pipe back to do before calling the hardware mods done, all actually now that I can tune it. fan clutch is still gone and the e-fan is behaving as expected.

what ended up needed to be done for HTP to auccessfully read and write your ecm? im running into a similar issue with my 01 4.7 dakota and their support seem to be at a loss

I am using their veta version and can only read if i manually enter the vin happens with both ecms i have (original and brand new both with proper vin flashed)

if I manually enter my vin I can get a read but can't license the tune so I am hoping your experience can shed some light on my issue

There is a button there that says "do not", i assume you deselected it and tried to do a download?

When i first did a download to mine it erased the ecu & failed the download, ecu was not suported yet. HPT did a debug session with me and got the info they needed for my ecu and rolled it into their beta and eventually the released version. Not having a 2nd backup ecu to use in case the problem happened again, i waited until i had a backup. At that time the next attempt was successful.

I would ask for an update on your ticket and see what the response is.

unfortunately you can't deselect it as there should be another option to use the credits to license the tune, I appreciate your speedy response and sharing what they did hopefully they figure this out soon

Another update.... got aggressive in the tune in an effort to pull more mpg's out of it. Lately best had been a consistent 15.6 mpg. Decided to pull duration back more, something like another 10%, previous efforts gained nothing so I felt I did not have much to loose. The ECM would add fuel as needed to keep 14.7 afr. But... I also adjusted a parameter for the fuel pump, a single compensation parameter with no idea what it is really doing. This tank gave some gains with a mpg tank coming in at 17.5 mpg. Power did drop with this tune.

This shows me that an external adjustable regulator could be leveraged to improve mpg's at the cost of some daily driving power. Another option to explore would be to control the voltage to the pump. Assuming it is running at battery voltage, a 12V regulator on it would drop the output some to let the ECU handle the compensation.

With this tune change came the observation that the LTFT went more positive indicating the ECU is adding fuel. What I believe is happening is the ECU is always playing catchup when either running rich (more power) or lean (better fuel economy). IN the tune the cells for WOT can be run rich since it would be in open loop. Would need a wideband O2 to dial that in.

Anyways, not sure what else could be looked at. I still have the y-pipe & exhaust to do and I expect initially bottom end part throttle torque will drop with the update & upper rpms will see a bump in gains.
