Aftermarket stereo will not turn off with ignition. I'm stumped
Picked up a 2003 Dakota 4.7 V8.... I'll do my best to explain this as I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to wiring and such...
So I have installed my cheap *** Walmart Bluetooth aftermarket, wired up as it should to the harness, it will power ON with the ignition, but it will NOT power OFF with key in off position/removed until I MANUALLY turn it off pressing the physical power button. I do not own a multimeter, so using a light tester, the yellow accessory (connected to the pinks in the dodge) HAS power in the OFF position. Red ignition (and every other wire for power for the matter) does NOT have power connection in OFF position. So that's not it.
I flipped the red and yellow to attempt that method. Stereo will power OFF with ignition going OFF position. Will NOT power ON with the ignition, nor will it store any memory. It must be MANUALLY powered on.
It was worn anyways so I have replaced the ignition lock cylinder but still getting the same results.... Saw in another forum saying to light test I believe it was fuse 17 18 19 in the OFF position and still nothing wrong there either..
I don't get what is happening. Please tell me I'm overlooking something.

Did you buy an aftermarket harness, or did you cut the plug from the old radio and wire it all up manually? The red and white wire should be the one with the switched voltage.

Pink & pink/black -to- yellow. Red -to- red/white

As I stated before, I did swap the red and yellow wires so it went: red - pink/black , yellow -red
All that did was make it not power on with ignition nor save memory. Only fixed the turning off with the ignition.

You're confusing yourself by using a harness that isn't even meant for a head unit. The pink is constant and should be hooked to your memory wire on the HU, so I guess that would be the yellow wire on your harness. The red is switched power, as I said before.
· Constant 12volts + Pink
· Accessory 12volts + Red/white
· Illumination 12volts + Orange
· Dimmer circuit variable 12volts + Tan
· OE amplifier 12 volt remote on, if equipped: Dark green/red
· Ground is the black wire with the 1/4″ spade terminal on the radio chassis
· Left front spkr + Light green/violet
· Left front spkr – Light green/dark green
· Right front spkr + Light blue/violet
· Right front spkr – Light blue/black
· Left rear spkr + White/red
· Left rear spkr – White/black
· Right rear spkr + Tan/violet
· Right rear spkr – Tan/black

You can buy the corresponding adapter harness for your radio at walmart usually. That way the colors should match to what the instructions in the box will tell you.

As suggested I have purchased and installed the corresponding harness, but it still more times than not, will stay powered on with ignition off and keys removed. I considered it must be the power delay (I think they call it like a power delay relay) for the interior lights/headlights. (like I said, sometimes it actually works and it turns off. Other times I've left it there for an hour and came back with the stereo still on).
SO I do not own a multimeter nor the will power at this point to follow the wires...fuse tap... I installed it from my fuse 5 (20amp: Front Wiper Relay, Central Timer Module, Multi-Function Switch, Wiper Motor).
IT STILL STAYS ON
*flips table* y'all, I said that this was screwy and something unusual. Not gonna be fixed by some dang harness lol 🤣😅😥
(*Idk if I ever mentioned earlier, the ignition lock cylinder I replaced when I got the truck)

Did you ever solve this problem? I just bought a stereo from Critchfield and bought the harness they said I needed, had them do the connections to the proper plug ins, everything they suggested. When I connect everything and turn on the ignition the unit turns on and will not turn off. Key can be in any position and unit stays on. My Dakota is a 3rd gen (2005). Critchfield tec has been helping me try to solve the problem but so far not working. They are sending me a new "Crux" interface module in case the one I received is bad. Any insite from you? Thanks
