Did you already flash the ECU? Or are you asking if that would fix it? Generally speaking you should leave the ECU alone unless your tuning or have a specific issue with it. If you have already flashed it and was working before with OEM parts then its not the ECU.

Good question! Best way to check for exhaust leaks. Have someone grab a rag and stop up the tailpipe while idling. You'll hear it hissing where it leaks. Here is a Dak with same code.

Side note... when I see Daks like this with abused 4.7s still running, it blows away all the crap people talk about this engine... and it gives me hope that mine will last a million miles.

My grandma had one that she just added a quart of oil a week since it burnt that much, and never gave it actual changes. The truck was ran extremely rough and was used to teach 4 kids how to drive. Hauled firewood in ways that make me wonder how nobody died... Finally got crashed at ~300k.

Nice! Once I replaced the valve stem seals and valve cover gaskets, I no longer lose any oil between changes and that's 7,500 miles with full syn. Really not getting any soot out the tailpipe either....it's burning clean. Coming up on 333,333 mi soon.

A battery disconnect for a short time works for the ecm /reset.

[ not always true with ABS codes though]

I doubt you need any software updates if its running an itwas ok before the code.

Default P0171 code

Hello again ,ok I disconnected the battery and the check engine light went off but it's still idling rough nothing has changed, but when I plug in my OBDII scanner it says the Vin # is not supported, so I wondering if because it's a different ecu that I had to have flashed maybe isn't registering that the part that the code said was bad (02 bank 1) was replaced ,maybe?

Some OBD2 scanners support Vin lookups. It lets the scanner know what the vehicle is and on fancier models what its supposed to be equipped with. Its saying "Vin not supported" because the truck is older than the scanner has info on. Its a non issue. Did you ever finish looking for vacuum leaks? Odds are your problem is still there. The 5.9 and 5.2 liter magnums were known to get plenum leaks pretty easy. Might try looking into that.
