control arm bushing replacement on 2000 RT
i finished changin the bushings in the upper and lower contorl arms, putting a new rubber mount for the top of the spring, and putting some new kyb monoshox along with replacing the lower ball joint, one of the harder parts i think. almost put a hole in myself with the ball joint when it exploded. ive got a bunch of pictres and im going to do a write up about the ball joint replacement. i was kinda aggravated by the time of the bushing replacement. most shops wouldnt press them out. either they werent set up for it, or they didnt think that i had to reuse the upper sleeves. almost got in a slight tussle with a mechanic trying to say that the sleeve could not be taken off of the old bushing. anyway , truck handles like a sports car now and i couldnt be happier, just need an alignment now.
Beign a mechanic myself, its kinda funny any of the shops give you that hard of a time......Put teh control arms in a vice and air hammer the sleeves/bushings and all in one shot.....Then use a large socket and teh same vice, with a bit of grease to presee them back in..use a blunt tipped air hammer tool for tapping it a bit and it all falls into place.....really about an hour to hour and a half a side with BJ replacement..Im glad it turned out for the best.
