Default HELP 99 Dakota V6 4wd 3.9L

Ok so I’m gonna take everyone’s advice on getting another battery but I do have one question that I forgot to mention when my friend hooked up the code reader he had cables hooked up to my truck from his car and it still wouldn’t read on the pcm reader or whatever that thing is called when it was plugged in under the dash it was saying it couldn’t make connection. And as I said for anyone who didn’t see the last post I just replaced my fuel pump the truck cranks when the battery is good but it won’t start at all and my friend didn’t hear the pump make the whirring noise that it should have but it definitely tried to start...but his reader couldn’t make a connection with my truck even with the cables hooked to my battery from his does that make sense I’m not understanding why it wouldn’t and what I need to do next, I just need like step by step what I should be doing fixing I’m lost on this. Oh and — =} HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL THE DADS ON THE THREAD!
